Junction Quarter Marathon - 2nd January 2012
For Bournemouth Athletic Club, the Junction Quarter Marathon (traditionally held on New Year's Day, but this year on Monday 2 January as this was the Bank Holiday), the first Dorset Road League race of the year, meant a slightly 'sticky' start to the 2012 League campaign, but, nevertheless, there were some fine performances, and a full Ladies' League team, which is hopefully a precursor of things to come, particularly as the Ladies' team now lies top of Division 2. In addition, many individual members have started 2012 with good positions in their League age categories, as listed below, and, for the Men, a full League team completed the race, which could prove important as the League unravels. Finishing second overall, Jon Sharkey had an excellent run, and, in sixth position, Club Captain Simon Munro set an example, considering he is at the moment suffering from an irritating knee niggle. It was also pleasing to see Duncan Wells running so well, placed ninth in the race, after such a recent return to regular training. Janie Chapman, finishing 26th, was first in her age category, as was Steph Slade who was 30th overall, in a race which attracted a record entry this year, and recorded 290 finishers.
